Letter #9. Spaghetti Dinner for the Elders—New Assignment for Papa and Grammie and Halloween 10/25-10/31
Here is the little condo all set up to have 8 Elders come over for a spaghetti dinner. The American Elders were so excited to have “American Spaghetti”! Grammie Tammie made enough to feed 16 Elders…but if you know Grammie Tammie that is nothing new! I saw her pack up a bunch of food for them to take home!
Here are 6 of the Elders that came—The other two were late and they didn’t get to have their picture taken with me!! They came later with the mission President. He even got to have some of Grammie Tammie’s spaghetti!
That very same day Papa and Grammie found out that they are going to have another grandson!! I heard Grammie Tammie say it was the best thing that happened all month! They are so excited!! Their son Tyler and his wife Becca are expecting a baby boy in April!!
Papa and Grammie were not sure if they celebrated Halloween in Mexico. But they found out that they do! There were lots of Halloween decorations all over their neighborhood. Also many of the different entrances into neighborhoods had decorations!
On Halloween they took these two missionaries with them to the Church in Leona Vicario. It’s a 45 minute drive from Cancun. They were asked to teach Sunday School just as they arrived at church! Grammie Tammie was glad it was them and not her!
After church they went by to see Maria and her kids. Her little boy had been sick so they didn’t come to church. They found out that the shed she had her store set up in had been broken into and some of her items had been stolen. She had to move her store into her house. Here is a picture of her store. They wanted to go see her because they had a bunch of money to give her. One of their sweet neighbors Geri had come to Cancun with her family and they went to visit them. When they heard the story of Maria and her children they wanted to help and gave papa Ben a bunch of money. They talked to her branch President and he said it would really help her to have the money to replenish her little store. Grammie needs to go to her house this next week and measure the kids and find out what they really need. The Hathcock family is very excited to provide Christmas for Maria and her children!
On their way out of town the Elders asked if they could stop and get a picture by the Leona Vicario sign. Of course Papa and Grammie said “sure”. They decided to get a picture too!
Papa and Grammie are not going to be working in the office anymore. They are going to spend their time serving and helping with the two congregations on Isla Mujeres and Leona Vicario! They are very excited about this!! It is what they had hoped to be doing as missionaries!
So awesome to hear about how you've been serving. How wonderful that Geri could spend time with you!
