Letter # 7 Such sweet humble people! 10/9/21
I want to tell you the story of this sweet woman and her 6 children. Her name is Maria. Her oldest daughter is 11 years old and the baby boy in her arms is about 16 months old. Her husband and father and mother all dies of COVID during a 4 month period. She is left alone to care for her 6 children. Grammie Tammie and Papa Ben feel such a love for this sweet family. There is not a welfare program in Mexico. Papa Ben said “our church does have a program and the president of her small congregation (Pres. Oseguera) is helping her. They decided to have her set up a little store from her house. She has a small shed were they set it up and he helps her buy food in bulk and then break it up into single servings or small bags to sell. There are people who live around her who are glad to have her little store so they don’t have to travel to town. It is a good way for her to feel good about providing for herself. (I will tell you more about what happened to her little store in a later letter)
Grammie Tammie really likes her oldest daughter. I think its because she is almost the same age as Brooklynn (Grammie Tammie’s granddaughter). I also heard Grammie tell Papa she feels for her because she knows what it is like to be the oldest child of a single mom.
Two of her daughters got baptized. I picked up some cakes from Costco and took them to church. After the baptism we had a little party in the Kitchen.
The oldest daughter had just turned 11 and the other two had just been baptized! It was a special day for Grammie and Papa to get to share with them! Everyone loved having cake after church!
The baptism font in this small chapel resembled a hot tub!
Papa Ben and Grammie Tammie are excited because all of their kids are going to help provide Christmas for this little family. Grammie said she is going to go this week and measure them so we will know what size they are and she wants to see if they have any toys and talk to them to see what they would like to have. She also wants to see how much room they have. Their house is very small!
