Letter #5 Things are getting busy around here! 9/14/21

Well today was a special day!  Grammie Tammie and Papa Ben FaceTimed with Aidan to wish him a Happy Birthday!  They can’t believe they have a teenage grandson!!  They had fun talking to him!

Here he is eating his birthday breakfast!!  They sure do love this boy!!  Happy Birthday to Aidan!!

            Monday Grammie Tammie baked brownies.

You would think that would be an easy task- especially with a mix! But that little oven she has does not work like a normal oven.  She had to put the brownies in again several times to see if she could get them cook in the middle and they never really did!  Oh well!  Lava cake brownies are good too! She made these to take to the missionaries when they went to inspect their apartments!

Here is Grammie Tammie with this cute group of Hermana’s!  3 of them are from the USA and the other 3 come from different places in Mexico.  They are such a fun group of girls!  Grammie Tammie really likes them—and they were VERY happy to get the brownies.  They don’t get to use the oven in their houses.  I guess they think they might be dangerous so they don’t order the propane tanks that would have to be hooked up to the stove.  They get a hot plate and an electric skillet and a microwave oven!

On Tuesday after they wished Aidan a happy birthday they drove out to a place called Leona Vicario.  It is a place that the mission president has asked them to go to also.  They went there to meet the Branch President and see how they could be of service there.

Here is what it started to look like as they drove to Leona Vicario.

It started looking more tropical than the area they live in.

They finally made it to the chapel.  It was on the second story of the tallest building in the little town.  The branch president met them at the building.  Grammie Tammie needed to use the bathroom.  The President said we haven’t cleaned the building yet….Grammie Tammie said “that’s ok”.  Then when she went into the bathroom this is what she saw:

The floor was covered in dead cockroaches!!! She stepped very carefully…used the bathroom and got out of there!!

Luckily there were no cockroaches in the Branch Presidents office.  They had a very nice visit with him and he is happy to have them there helping with the people in his branch.

They thought they were going to help clean the chapel.  Papa Ben called some Elders and asked if they could pick them up Friday around 4 pm to go help them clean the building.  They drove the 45 minutes to Leona Vicario only to find out that they had cleaned the building the night before!!  Papa Ben has learned to check the dates on his messages on “WhatsApp”!  Oh well they had a nice visit with the missionaries.  On the way home they ate delicious crispy apples and some yummy crackers that Grammie Tammie had packed!

When they went to church there Sunday the building was nice and clean and not a cockroach to be found!! Papa Ben gave a talk (the same  one he gave in Isla Verde)!!  Grammie Tammie only got up and introduced them and bore her testimony.  They met some really sweet people.  The next letter I write to you I am going to tell you about a special Mom and her 6 children!

One of the things they have been doing is inspecting the houses the missionaries live in.  Here is the outside of one of the houses they went to see.

4 missionaries live in this house.  One of them prefers to sleep in a hammock.  He has it set up in one of the bedrooms.  He says it is cooler than sleeping in the bed.  I should have taken a picture of it!

That same evening they went to a house where 4 other missionaries live…..I am so sad that I didn’t take a picture of these 4 little boys that Grammie Tammie met while she was waiting in the car for Papa Ben.  They were all hanging out—outside the missionaries house.  They came to her window and asked her all kinds of questions. How old she was, where she was from, how many kids she had, how big was her house.  Was she the “Jefe” (boss) to all the missionaries!  They were so adorable.  Grammie Tammie said it did her soul good to talk to those sweet boys!  She wants to go back so we can get a picture of them and she wants to let them play with her “snap chat” app.  She didn’t understand what they were asking about until it was time to go!

Ok - its time to go my good little amigos!

Until next time!

Adios!

Pepito
